MLA Citation and other questions?

I'm writing an annotated bibliography and I'm trying to figure out how to cite the sources as well as the overview. Each source has one author. I've basically paraphrased what the author has said for the most part and paraphrased what I needed for my research from each article. Do I cite the author after each direct quote and thought, or just quote?
