Can police search your car for any reason?

I feel like my life is over. I used to have a very bad record still do but I went along time and did alot of rehab to get better. then recently i started back on drugs. last night i received citations and pretty much blew my chances of ever get my record fixed. i am more depressed than ever. feel guilty and let myself and my family down
