How come Insomnia movie by Christopher Nolan is grouped under psycological thriller...can anybody explain..?

I saw this movie recently as i read the review of 92% fresh tomatoes ...how come....it is just a cop movies and is the term insomnia which Dormer is suffering has any relation with the film....can anybody explain who have watched this movie and tell the synopsis..what you have understood
